OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheets are not ordinary exam papers — they are technically formatted documents that undergo automated scanning and reading. Even with highly capable software, if bubbles are filled incorrectly, or instructions ignored, the risk of rejection or inaccurate data increases.
Input Details (Roll No, Series, Exam Code)
Always read the printed instructions on your OMR sheet carefully before starting.
Fill in your roll number, question-paper code, series or set code in the specific blocks or bubbles provided. Ensure each digit is bubbled fully, and the correct code is used. Mistakes in these fields can invalidate the sheet.
Do not write or mark outside the designated areas, especially near index points or reference marks.
Use only blue or black ball-point pen or a specified pencil (HB/2B) if permitted. Avoid gel pens, fountain pens or other colours unless explicitly allowed.
Completely darken the bubble for each answer. Partial fills, ticks, crosses or light marks may not be recognized reliably by the scanner.
Do not fill more than one bubble per question (unless instructions allow multiple responses). Multiple bubbles in an MCQ lead to invalid answers.
If the bubble spills out of the circle or is over-filled, avoid excessive shading — aim for a neat, full fill. The scanning software is sensitive to irregularities.
Using pencils when not permitted, or using thin strokes instead of filling bubbles fully.
Leaving stray marks, erasures, smudges, folds or staples on the sheet. These can interfere with scanning.
Filling bubbles too lightly, or with a tick/mark instead of fully shading.
Neglecting to fill or verify identification fields (roll number, series code) properly.
Before the exam begins, read all instructions printed on your OMR sheet — watch for specifications about pen/pencil, bubble fill method, etc.
Fill in all required identification fields: roll number, exam code, question-paper series as instructed. Double check correctness.
Begin answering only when instructed. For each question:
Choose the bubble corresponding to your answer.
Fully darken that bubble using the permitted writing instrument.
Ensure you mark only one bubble per question (unless multiple answers allowed).
Avoid making any marks outside the designated answer zones (e.g., rough work on the OMR sheet is risky). Use your question booklet for rough work.
If a mistake is made:
Follow instructions for correction (if allowed). Some exams may allow pencil erasure or may not allow at all.
Do not use correction fluid, and avoid making extra marks or scribbles.
After finishing, check one more time that all identification fields are filled, and your answers are clearly marked. Then hand over the OMR sheet as directed.
Ensure invigilators clearly explain the filling procedure and permitted instruments to candidates.
Provide candidates with sample or mock OMR sheets to practice proper bubble filling.
Monitor that no candidate uses forbidden instruments (gel pens, fountain pens) or writes outside permitted zones.
Keep OMR sheets flat, clean, and free from folds, staples, pins or other damage. Damaged sheets may be rejected by the scanner.
After collection, count and bundle the sheets systematically, tracking series, roll numbers and ensure no mis-order.
Used blue/black ball-point pen (or permitted HB/2B pencil)
Roll number and exam code filled correctly
Each answer has exactly one fully darkened bubble
Blank questions left blank (no mark in any bubble)
No ticks, crosses, partial fills, stray marks
Sheet is flat, undamaged, no folds or staples
Correctly submitted sheet as required by invigilator
